A two-part Special Event not to be missed. One of Australia’s most acclaimed composers, Elena Kats-Chernin presents an afternoon of her piano works relating to films in addition to a newly commissioned work. Following this, there is a presentation of the documentary “Boot Cake” introduced by it’s Director, Kathryn Millard. In a desert town in India (home to the largest population of Tramp impersonators) Charlie Chaplin is a saint, and they’re throwing him a birthday party, with Kathryn Millard taking the cake! This is a wonderful, mad, poignant story of resilience and hope.

Over the Hills and Far Away: Works by Percy Grainger
Performed by Tamara Anna Cislowska

30 August 3pm

Award-winning Australian pianist Tamara Anna Cislowska has attracted national and international acclaim for her thrilling performances and flawless technique. In this special concert event, Tamara explores the solo piano works of Percy Grainger. Grainger composed around 90 solo piano pieces, many of which are transcriptions of earlier orchestral or instrumental compositions. Grainger was an inveterate arranger and transcriber of music, of his own composition, of folk music from around the world such as Denmark, American. Ireland, England, etc. and of works by other great composers. Grainger was an unconventional man, in his attitudes, his life style and his music where he experimented with a variety of techniques including free rhythm, polytonality and improvisation.

Program to include ‘Children’s March, ‘Molly on the Shore’, ‘The “Gumsuckers” March’, ‘Colonial Song’.
